Libertine
Brief:
  1. Libertine approached illegal to design the entire identity for the restaurant at 1 Kellett Street Kings Cross. At the time, this consisted of a logo, stationary, a website, menus and interior graphics. Put simply the identity brief was 'Vietnamese/French Colonial'.
  2. Since the restaurant opened in November 2005, illegal had produced a raft of promotional material, some of which appears via the links below.

Solutions:
  1. illegal designed Libertine's identity and collateral in partnership with JSD. A logo with a distinct Quill Pen feel was thought to fill the French colonial brief well, whilst the red, lighted gradient inside the letters implied that the restaurant was also a nightspot. For an older 'colonial' feel, the menus were produced in raw leather with large stitching, embossed with the Libertine logo. The Libertine graphic 'wheel' was taken from historical powdered ornament and was thought to reflect a similar sentiment.
  2. As a restaurant and late night bar, Libertine requires a higher level of creativity and experimentation in its graphic design than the corporate sector. There is no better medium for this kind of design than in the various promotional posters which are hung on the premises.
